EXPLORING WHITENESS | GROUP ONE

EXPLORING WHITENESS | GROUP ONE
Group 1 Dates:
Mondays starting February 7th from 7:30-9:00PM Eastern time.
If you need a different time but would still like to participate, please review Group 2 or Group 3.
Join a small learning community (SLC) (target group size is no larger than 9) to explore the meaning of whiteness as you’ve never done before. This SLC is for those from majority cultures, or for anyone who is seeking greater racial consciousness but would like a supportive community to “do their own work”.
The course deals primarily with Whiteness. For people who identify as white, there is an inherent privilege in having an “invisible” racial identity, as opposed to minority cultures who have a “visible” racial identity. Whiteness is seen as the “norm”, and anything beyond whiteness is often “othered.”
“Seek first to know so you can understand. Seek to understand so you can apply. “
We’re not trying to boil the ocean and save the world – we’re trying to understand ourselves as racial beings, so we can contribute to our communities more inclusively, equitably, and powerfully.
Sessions will be highly reflective and dialogue-rich, pushing us out of our comfort zones to build a strong sense of our racial identity even from within a majority culture.
“The paradox of personal development is we cannot do it alone.”
